Justin is confronted by a menacing group of brown-suited men who follow him home. Terrified, he finds himself trapped in his apartment with his mother and the custodian, Mr. Wilson. And when the strangers begin battering down the front door, Wilson offers Justin his one chance to escape to safety...using his own bathtub.

Needs revising

This author has an interesting concept, but unfortunately, suffers from a common writing flaw, one I am all to familiar with from my own attempts at writing. It is the excessive back-story at the beginning of the book, and being completely devoid of much in the way of tension and conflict. With a couple of exceptions, the author is reluctant to describe the nouns in the story. I have a hard time picturing what is happening and I don't enjoy it. There is something about the characters that feels like they blurr together and lack a distinct voice.
I personally ponder if the author merely polished their first version, or actually started out with a blank word document and rewrote the story all over again. I only lasted about 5 or 6 chapters before giving up.

Surprisingly Good

Why was I surprised? Well, the writing style seemed a little rough to me in the first few chapters, and for a while I thought I might be reading another version of Percy Jackson. Fortunately, the author quickly deviated from that direction and made the story his own. As the book progresses, the writing becomes smoother and the characters more complex. Oh, their are a few cookie cutter characters, but the important ones are sufficiently deep for the first novel. This novel was written in the first person, and is perfectly suitable for young adult audiences. It is paced fairly well, edited sufficiently, and entertaining. I would recommend it, and will read the authors next book.

An Excellent Storyline!

Though this book appears as a young adult story, I found it refreshing. The author has established a premise that the Titans will return through our youths possessing special genes. This first book educates us as to what is in store for them and the main character "Justin" while building personalities and a core to work with. I'm looking forward to continued pleasure with future books and highly recommend this series to those with youthful and open minds. But beware, book 2 is a must read! Why? Because book 1 leaves us in a "dang it" position where we only find out what's next by continuing to read. Well done!
