Mixed bag of team-ups

The Brave and the Bold is a neat idea. With some titanic talents at the helm, writer Mark Waid and artists George Perez and Jerry Ordway the book pair off various DC characters. Some are proven vets like Superman or Wonder Woman, others are second tier like Powergirl or Aquaman and some are (rightfully) obscure like the Metal Men or Silent Knight.

Their stories are tied together by a common foe, an immortal alchemist named Megistus. And then everything comes together in the final chapter.

The stories are fairly simple and done in one issue. In one tour-de-force Perez and Waid squeeze 3 complete team up stories in one issue. The story is just about perfect. Various obscure characters show up, do their bit, make you smile and leave.

But the final battle really goes no where. The foe is as dull as a thousand other mad scientists and the battle is so crowded with heroes none of them stand out.

Perez is still incredible

First I got this book by mistake and that context is important for understanding this review. I thought it was going to be a return of the old Batman somebody else team ups- it isn't it is a complex multi-part story in the DC universe- which would not be bad as I like Waid as a writer but I hate books with a gazillion characters since it dilutes what can be done with each character.
And yes this is similar to my review on volume one but this volume is essentially a continuation of that volume- like volume one you will need a pretty good background in DC history especially silver age era to get the most out of the story. If I didn't read comics from 1957 to about 1978 this may ahve been a different experience
What saves this book is Perez's art- he is incredible in his detail and interest in drawing Virtually every character. Jerry Ordway finishes the series and does a very good job on it
If you like these big DC universe stories this is a great book- they are not my cup of tea but in spite of that Perez's art saved the day.
(Review 6 in my attempt to review every graphic novel I read this year!)

Amazing insight into Con Law

I wasn't fortunate to get placed with the best ConLaw professor and this book has saved me! This book does an amazing job of going into the analysis of each case and explaining how they all fit together. I got Example and Explanations for Property, but for Con Law this book is the way to go!

Amazing book for $20, disappointing at $75. Go to HIMSS website instead

I'm so glad I work for a college whose library happened to have this book. $75 isn't really worth the price to basically get directed to resources on their website and to read some high level conversations you could get form a webinar. Yeah, ok, if you perfer to read over reading the website or listening to the webinars and you're willing to shell out the money it is a good book. My expectations were different. I expected for $75 bucks to get some really good guidance on compensating controls, or policy templates, maybe even some best practices. I got a few best practices (maybe 4-7 bullet points a chapter?) but nothing that was really different than their website. The most useful materials (for instance, the Medical Device Security review form called the Manufacturers Statement or MD2) is available for free from their website. God bless them for that, but really this book doesn't add much value to the amazing resources on the website. some chapters were good reads and the best coverage out there of some really difficult topics like medical device security and FDA regulatory oversight, but again... not really that much better than this marvelous organization makes available for free.

It is not good for:
- security engineers and analysts already in the field
- consultants already in the field
-people willing to spend their time on the HIMSS website and reading those free resources and listening to webinars

This is really good for the following people:
- a manager who has suddenly been put in charge of a security team in healthcare and needs to get up to speed quick
-a director who has security responsibilities and needs to know just enough to know the kinds of challenges they face and the kind of impact it will have on your greater IT operations
-someone considering going into the healthcare security field from another field, and happens to be able to find this book in a library

I used to think reviews were written by friends of the author but I do not know Amy Johnson or how I came across her material. I do recall voting on a name for this book and threw in my two cents. When I saw the ads for the book my interest was peaked and I decided to buy it. First let me say I have almost 1,000 books that I am pretending I will read but I actually took the time to read this book cover to cover and that is why I chose the word Bravo. I feel Dr. Johnson speaks from the heart and she is keeping it real. I once told my daughter that we don't choose the book, the book choses us and Being Human chose me and I am glad it did. Over the years I have learned that it is my job to look for the golden nuggets that are for me when I am reading anything and to discard the rest but with this book most of it is golden so for less than the cost of a supersize meal at your favorite fast food joint you can devour something that will give you repeated benefits for years to come if you just find one thing that makes you happy I would say that was money well invested. Go for it. Mitch

Loved this book! Every turn of the page brought another nugget of enlightening information. I will definitely be rereading, there is so much great useful information that one reading is not enough. If you have children, especially girls, I definitely recommend reading , you will see what I mean. I had the Kindle version which included some really cool artwork.
