(NEWBIE review) Good music, could be better presented

The music available is great.

Although I am new to classical guitar, some of the fingering provided seems erratic. This may be my novice misunderstanding though.

The real problem I had with the book is that some of the pieces, the Menuetts in particular, are not fully named. It took me longer than I like to admit to find which Menuett was Menuett in D Minor, BWV Anh. 132.

As someone who likes to browse through my tab books with YouTube up to discern which pieces I'd like to learn, this was frustrating.

I have the paper copy of this, and it is quite good. The tunes are relatively simple to play and it is generally nicely laid out. Unlike the other reviewers kindle copy this one is easy to use and clearly laid out.

Don't waste your money on the Kindle version!

Total waste of money.
I can't speak about the actual book, or the content, but I purchased the kindle version of this, and it is AWFUL. Amazon needs to set some quality standards here. The font is WAY too small to see, and when I try to zoom in it only gets more blurry. I spent 10 minutes reading through one piece, and had to continuously zoom around the screen to see when my hands should have been on the guitar, and even then I got a headache from the blurriness. It is apparent that the publisher couldn't care less about the ability of its customers to actually use this book, but instead wanted to rush the product to market. My FREE multifunction printer/scanner could do a better job of making legible digital copies of this music.
This was the first bit of music I ordered for kindle (on my ipad), and it will probably be the last, unless in the future someone can assure me that things have changed.
Don't waste your money. Can I return this?

A solid book on memory techniques

This book has all the memory techniques that are typically taught in memory courses and other memory books. Even if they are sometimes introduced by other names, all of the techniques are variants and combinations of word-substitution (mostly used for foreign words, but also people's names and words that can't easily be pictured), link, peg, loci (sometimes called Roman Room technique) and phonetic (letter for number substitution) systems. The book is mostly re-hashed information that has been presented earlier (even by Lorayne himself), but the writing style makes it a book worth keeping.
The real strength of this book over others of its kind is the dialog between Lucas and Lorayne. They are fun to read and almost never get boring. There are anecdotes to at the beginning of most chapters and spread throughout the book.
Personally, I found Kenneth Higbee's "Your Memory" a better book, it's more complete a reference and gives much more of the why of memory rather than just the how of remembering. Depending on your needs, you might like this book more, it's got more examples on how to use the systems it introduces and is much lighter and a little less dry, although Higbee's book is very readable.
As with every other memory book, the techniques take time to learn and take considerable effort, but work very well. For a book on memory techniques, this book doesn't dissapoint.

The book that makes you go through the experience of the author and how he learns to improve himself in the memorizing aspect is just mind blowing. Harry Lorayne has the experience of expanding his memorization potential over time and the techniques mentioned in here are also that he applied to his brain expansion. This book "The Memory Book: The Classic Guide to Improving Your Memory at Work, at School, and at Play" is just one of the phenomenal books if you are really serious in boosting up your memory.

Then when I searched for the book that not only make me increase my memory but in reality gives the control of my mind to me, I also came to know about this excellent book Maximizing Brain Control : Unleash The Genius In You. You can increase the memorization power with different tips and tricks but taking full control so that there remains no door unlocked for your memory to be enhanced, you can always go through this book to add up to your memorizing skills.

Harry Lorayne has proven himself to be the master at increasing mind's potential. The thing is that there is no way that you would master any trick overnight but with the techniques he share with you that he have used for all his life and have benefit from them up till today. It is your time to get on with learning the techniques and get the boost in your memory while you study, play or even when you are hanging out with friends. The only thing that would make your memory perfect is how much you dedicate yourself to them.

The author has taught with his experience that how he step by step mastered the techniques and how you can become proficient at them too so that you can get the grasp on your memory. This book is worth having especially if you are tired of looking around for memory improving books. On the very short list of absolute MUST READ books!!

Harry Lorayne, a master magician and card entertainer, is also one of the world's leading memory experts. "The Memory Book" will change your life, literally. In the book, Lorayne describes in detail several memory techniques that, with a little practice, will have you remembering virtually anything you want. Among the techniques, the three I use the most are the Link, Substitute Words, and the Peg. The Link is used to remember any number of items, such as 20 objects, etc. The Peg is used to remember any number of objects in order. Using a phonetic type alphabet for numbers, that is, assigning a consonant sound for each number, Lorayne shows how to memorize numbers easily. The techniques really do work. Frankly, I've never spent so little for something that has changed my life so much. One testimonial is in order: I am a professional teacher. The first day of class I use one of Lorayne's techniques in my class that allows everyone in the classroom, including me, to remember the name of everyone else in the classroom. And it takes less than 20 minutes. The systems work. The only minor quibble I have with the book is that after reading this book, I also read widely in the area of memory improvement. Other books have used the identical techniques to improve memory, so I'm confused as to how much of Lorayne's techniques originated with him, or were borrowed from the literature. This minor point aside, you really do need to have this book on your "READ" list. A real treasure.

About the Author
Irene W. Leigh, PhD, is a Deaf psychologist whose experience includes high school teaching, psychological assessment, psychotherapy, and private practice. From 1985 to 1991 she was a psychologist and assistant director at the Lexington Center for Mental Health Services. She taught in the Gallaudet University Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program from 1992 to 2012, was Psychology Department Chair from 2008 to 2012, and attained professor emerita status in 2012.
Jean F. Andrews, PhD, received a bachelor's degree in English language and literature from Catholic University, in Washington, DC, a master's in education in Deaf education from McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland College) in Westminster, Maryland, and a doctorate in speech and hearing sciences from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Dr. Andrews was a classroom teacher of reading at the Maryland School for the Deaf in Frederick, Maryland.
Raychelle L. Harris, PhD, a third generation Deaf and a native ASL signer, received her bachelor's degree in American Sign Language (ASL) from Gallaudet University in 1995 and master's degree in Deaf education from Western Maryland College in 2000. Dr. Harris has been teaching ASL as a first and second language since 1993. She returned to Gallaudet University for her doctoral studies in the areas of education and linguistics, with her dissertation topic focused on ASL discourse in academic settings.

Do not waste your money

When I purchased this book I was hoping to receive a manual discussing "Home Automation and Wiring" instead I received a mish mash of very low tech information. Out of 322 pages I found only 7 items that were remotely useful. The book has no cohesive flow, the author jumps from subject to subject. I would strongly recommend purchasing "Structured Wiring and Design Manual" by Robert N. Bucceri.

Not worth the money

The cover sure makes it look like this is a serious book with a lot of information. Too bad that notion disappears once you open it up. If you're looking to build a smart home and plan on doing some of the work yourself, this book won't help very much. You'll get a little information, but not enough to actually do the job on your own. If you want a smart home and are willing to hire someone to do it for you, then this book will at least tell you what words to use.
The best book I've read I've read so far is "Smart Homes for Dummies." It has significantly more detail and is useful for someone who wants to try to do this on their own.

In serious need of update

With the pace home automation as been changing, this book should be considered "out of date" and hopefully soon be "out of print." While the author does seek to enlighten readers, the focus of the book is out-of-touch with main stream home automation thinking in 2002. Even the control systems referenced are no-longer near the cutting edge. While references to structured wiring still ring true, the techniques for reaching a total intregated system have changed. I was so disappointed with this book I actually returned to Amazon as I felt it could not enhance my library in any regard. As an alternative I would suggest "Home Automation for Dummies."

Finally! Relationship advice that isn't total crap!

We all know the feeling. You walk into a bookstore and make your way into the "self-help" aisle, hoping for some thoughtful answers to your current, past, and (inevitable) future relationship woes. We all have them, after all. You stand there, perplexed and overwhelmed, sifting through title after title of people claiming to have all the answers to any problem your relationships might be facing. You end up settling on one, or two, or maybe even five books. After spending your precious time reading these books, you find yourself disappointed at the flighty and inconsistent advice they seem to offer, pointing you in several (or no) directions, and leaving you with more questions than you had to begin with. Or maybe that's just me; this is a dilemma I have faced for years. The relationship authors of the world have left me wanting more. Well, I am happy to report that my proverbial prayers have been answered, and this book is exactly what I have been waiting for all along.

Everyone claims to be a relationship expert. What qualifies one as an expert in relationships? Having more than one failed relationship? Or perhaps being married to the same person for 30 years puts one in a position to proselytize their personal stories to the rest of the public, claiming to know the answer to all types of relationships? Maybe. In this reader's humble opinion, the people who have authored this book are among a small group of folks who can successfully call themselves "experts". These are the people who have dedicated their lives and careers to answering the very dilemmas we all seek to understand in our personal relationships. The people who spend countless hours conducting studies and testing hypotheses that inevitably lead to a better understanding of what makes our relationships tick. These ARE the experts.

This book is thoughtful, intelligent, thorough, and well-rounded. It offers objective scientific knowledge by the very people who specialize in relationships, and applies this knowledge to concepts and ideas that we are all curious about. I recommend this book not only to those who are struggling, but those who find themselves wanting to know more about these integral and seemingly elusive experiences we call relationships.

Knowledge is power.

A Great Book!

I have reviewed a number of relationship books from "experts" in the field, but this is one of the first books that I have read from actual researchers that is not dry and hard to read. This is written for the reader in mind and provides some great information for anyone who is interested in getting to better understand what people are thinking about, feeling, etc. in relationships. What I loved about this book is that it was written by a group of well educated writers and the information contained within the book is based on surveys and other research that each of the authors has been engaged within. The book is short and to the point, but packs a punch when it comes to the information that it shares. If you want to know more about yourself and more about the relationships that you are in, look no further than this book!
