A Horrible Book Which Is Important Nonetheless

My first thought about this book was that it was confusing as hell and I wanted to get rid of it as soon as my class over. The distinction between a latin letter to represent a scalar, a greek letter to represent a vector and an italic letter to represent a matrix was just too messed up. But it's grown on me and now I see the value in this book. Whereas all other linear algebra books talk about vector spaces and groups over the fields of real or complex numbers, Finkbeiner discusses other fields as well like the finite integer fields. That fact turned out to be so useful in my later life and it never would have occurred to me had it not been for this book. I heartily recommend it and suggest that you plow through it despite the horrible way it's written. I'm scoring it in the middle because of the way it reads.
